Miss Earth Nigeria Honours Environmental Advocate Wonne Afronelly |
On Saturday, August 27th, 2022, Miss Earth Nigeria awarded outstanding individuals for their role played in achieving a sustainable environment in society during the grand finale of the 21st Edition of the Miss Earth Nigeria Beauty Pageant, held in Rivers state.
Reacting, Ms. Wonne stated that, “The meritorious award by Miss Earth Nigeria means so much to me given the fact that it is one by an organization that promotes beauty for a cause. Another interesting fact is that the Country Director and Coordinator, Ibinabo Fiberesima, who has hosted Miss Earth in Nigeria for the past 21 years, is someone who I draw inspiration from.”
According to the Rivers Allied Peoples Movement (APM) House of Representatives Candidate for the Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections, “Staying consistent, tenacious and dogged in a volatile region like the Niger Delta and pushing a global cause on environmental sustainability is not an easy task many people want to take on, and with women like ex-beauty queen Ibinabo, the Niger Delta and Nigeria can get better in the near future."
In the same vein, Wonne Afronelly had earlier on Friday, August 26, 2022, joined in tree planting as part of activities mapped out for Miss Earth Nigeria 2022 coronation.
More than 25 trees were planted in different locations, such as Port Harcourt Refinery, Palace of King Ateke Tom of Okochiri Kingdom, Okrika.
Present at the occasion were Miss Earth Nigeria officials led by country director Ibinabo Fiberesima, Miss Earth 2021 and all delegates of Miss Earth Nigeria 2022, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Eco.
Ms. Wonne stated that, “We are excited about this ECO Acts by Miss Earth Nigeria as it inspires my organization to push further in actualizing our project of raising 1 million trees in Africa by 2025."
“We urge people to join our different initiatives such as #1000ManMarch, #TheECOpledge, #SayNoToPlastic, and #SEAL2023 to keep the environment safe and clean, she said.
