In a statement issued by ABFIM’s Country Director, Prince Fayemi Emmanuel Abiodun, the organization lauded Dr. Adesina for a decade of exceptional service that has not only strengthened the African Development Bank but also reshaped the agricultural and economic future of the African continent.

“Your leadership has been nothing short of transformative. Your tireless dedication to food security, rural prosperity, and inclusive growth has positioned agriculture as the cornerstone of Africa’s development strategy,” the statement read in part.

Citing landmark initiatives such as Feed Africa, Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT), and the African Emergency Food Production Facility, ABFIM noted Dr. Adesina’s efforts in turning agriculture into a vehicle for economic empowerment, particularly for women and youth.

Fayemi, who is also the Founder and President of the Farmers Lives Matter Movement, and Chief Executive Officer of HAVEA, reiterated that Adesina’s resolute admiration for Africa’s potential has redefined the essence of leadership in development.

“Dr. Adesina, you are not only a leader but a trailblazer whose legacy continues to inspire innovation, resilience, and unity in the African agribusiness community. Your unwavering belief in Africa’s potential has redefined what leadership in development truly means.

“At ABFIM, we believe that farmers are the foundation of sustainable development. Your work has consistently reinforced this belief, offering real solutions to age-old challenges in access to finance, mechanization, value chain development, and market integration. You have been a bridge between policy and practice, vision and reality—uplifting agriculture from subsistence to enterprise,” the statement continued.

The organization, which advocates for farmer empowerment and sustainable agribusiness, emphasized that Dr. Adesina’s work mirrors its own vision of putting farmers at the center of development.

“As you mark this milestone, we celebrate with you and express our deepest gratitude for your service. May the seeds you have sown continue to bear fruit in abundance, and may your vision continue to shape a thriving, food-secure Africa means,” the statement ended.

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the 8th elected President of the African Development Bank Group, was first elected to the position on May 28, 2015. His second and final term is set to end this August, bringing to a close a decade of transformative and visionary leadership.
