Hon. Muktar Tolani Shagaya, the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education, has emphasised the importance of providing access to quality education and training for Yoruba youths.

The lawmaker noted that education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all young people, regardless of their background or circumstances. 


Hon. Shagaya made the remark when the National Coordinator of the Asiwaju Coalition of Yoruba Youths (ACYY), Comrade Ayinde Abduljaleel, paid him a curtesy visit at his office on Thursday.


He highlighted the role of education in empowering youth, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute meaningfully to society. Shagaya also stressed the need for continuous learning and skill development to keep pace with the rapidly evolving global landscape.


The visitation, which also had in attendance a delegation of young leaders, activists, and community organisers, was aimed at discussing and deliberating on strategies to develop and empower the youth population in the Yoruba community.


Speaking, the National Coordinator of the Asiwaju Coalition of Yoruba Youths (ACYY), Comrade Ayinde Abduljaleel, described the meeting as 'successful and productive,' which featured open discussions on key issues such as education and skill development, affecting young people in the Yoruba community.’


“We presented innovative ideas for educational programmes and vocational training initiatives that would benefit young people across the region. Economic empowerment was also a major topic of discussion, with a focus on creating job opportunities, supporting entrepreneurship, and promoting economic growth within the Yoruba community. 


“The meeting showcased the potential for positive change and progress in addressing the needs and aspirations of Yoruba youths,” he said.


Ayinde also noted that the visitation provided a platform for discussing social and cultural issues affecting Yoruba youths. 


“The importance of promoting cultural heritage, preserving traditional values, and fostering community pride among young people was emphasised.


"The meeting underscored the significance of active involvement in shaping the future of the community."
