In a bid to further ensure accountability and safety
amongst corps members, The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in a training
workshop in Ibadan, few weeks ago, introduced biometric clearance for corp members in the
South West.
Brigadier-General Sule Kazaure, Director-General of
the NYSC, in the training workshop themed ‘Ensuring Accountability in Corps
Members Activities Using ICT’, noted that the use of biometric clearance will
ensure accountability amongst corps members as it will curb payment of
allowance to absent corps members.
According to media sources, the introduction of the
biometric in Oyo state is not the first of its kind, former Director-General of
NYSC, Brigadier-General Johnson Olawumi, had in 2015 at an inauguration and
demonstration ceremony in Kuje Area Council, Abuja, introduced the National
Youth Service Corps’ biometric data capturing technology to help keep tabs on
corps members.
Vanguard reported that the biometric clearance was
supposed to kick-off in September, 2015, for Lagos and Abuja, and extend to other
geo-political zones in 2016.
The biometric clearance has taken off in Abuja and Lagos, according to Techpoint. If this biometric exercise is sustained, it will help reduce death of corp members natonwide, as it will restrict them to their several locations. Also, participant of the scheme won't be paid his or her allawee' if found defaulting.
Do you think the introduction of biometric for Monthly clearance will help tackle ghost corpers, amongst other issues relating to corps members?
