Bank Verification Number (BVN) is an initiative of the Central Bank of Nigeria to give customers a unique number that can be verified across the Nigerian banking industry. BVN helps to protect every bank customers information by assigning to their account a unique identification number. The Bank verification number uses bio-metrics. 


Which means, the BVN is unique to every individual with respect to their physiological or behavioral attribute with the use of fingerprint or thumbprint or electronic signature etc. This helps to strengthen any banking security system so as to protect individual account from fraudsters or against any fraudulent act from infringed third party.

 How to Enroll for the bank verification number in Nigeria.

1. Go to any of your Bank’s branch
2. Ask for the BVN enrollment form, fill and submit the form
3. Present yourself for data capture such as fingerprint, photograph etc
4. An acknowledgement slip with ticket ID will be given to you after the enrollment


After enrollment, within 24 hours the system confirms your application, your BVN is generated, and you receive an SMS for pickup. With this, you are sure that your bank account is now more protected from fraudulent activities.


Please note, before you go to your bank, you will need to go with the following documents;

– Acceptable means of identification e.g Official Passport.
– Customers of banks shall be required to enroll within a fixed period after which they
– A your ten (10) fingers and facial image.
– Your customer information will be updated. So you need to remember the information on your account.
– Banks shall be prompted during account opening and credit check if a customer has been blacklisted by ANY Nigerian Bank.


How to Enroll for the bank verification number outside Nigeria.

To enroll for the BVN abroad, you are meant to log on to oisservices.com/bvn/ to book and confirm an appointment and visit any of the above locations with the following:

– A valid means of identification e.g. Current International Passport, Driver’s License/National ID Card.
– Account Name and Account Number
– One recent passport photograph
– Enrolment fee (varies based on location).
