Reports just reaching us indicates that President Muhammadu Buhari has laid off 17 permanent secretaries today, November 9.
According to Sahara Reporters, the senior civil
servants were given the boot today after a meeting with President Buhari,
the chief of staff to the president,
Abba Kyari and the head of civil service of the federation, Mrs Winifred Ekanem
Oyo-Ita.
The rumours about the imminent sack of the permanent
secretaries has been circulating in the media for a while now.
Today’s decision is coming 24 hours before the
swearing in of the president’s cabinet tomorrow.
The presidency is yet to issue a statement on the
issue.
More details later.
Recall that two weeks ago, Oyo-Ita had promised to
reposition and revamp the civil service for efficient and quality service in
the country.
