The company announced via a blogpost on its website it's "bringing payments to whatsApp for people and small businesses in Brazil."

According to WhatsApp -

We’re excited to announce that starting today we’re bringing digital payments to WhatsApp users in Brazil. People will be able to send money securely or make a purchase from a local business without leaving their chat.
The over 2 billion user social media platform further said it has built payments with security in mind and a special six digit PIN or fingerprint will be required to prevent unauthorized transactions

Presently, WhatsApp digital payment currently accept debit or credit cards from Banco do Brasil, Nubank, and Sicredi on the Visa and Mastercard networks and it is working with Cielo, the leading payments processor in Brazil and have built an open model to welcome more partners in the future.

The best part of the service is that users will not pay a fee to access the digital service except businesses who will pay a processing fee to receive customer payments .

Sending money or making a purchase on WhatsApp is free for people. Businesses will pay a processing fee to receive customer payments, similar to what they may already pay when accepting a credit card transaction.
The WhatsApp payment system which launched in India late 2018 with beta-testing will be enabled through Facebook Pay in Brazil. TechCrunch noted that - Facebook, the parent company of WhatsApp is dealing with regulatory policy in India and that may be the reason the digital payment platform wasn't launched as expected in the country.

Payment on WhatsApp is rolling out to users and expected globally any moment from now but WhatsApp is silent on exact date.
